Nursing guru and Gervaise Phinn are latest speaking stars
Author
and broadcaster Gervaise Phinn and the co-founder of a national charity aimed
at improving patient care are among a selection of guest speakers booked to
entertain and enlighten family, friends and residents of Fernhill House over
the coming months.
The free
talks are open to the wider public and drinks and nibbles are offered for added
appeal!
As well
as helping set up Kissing it Better, which harnesses the specialist skills of
local community groups to make a difference to patients, nurse Jill Fraser has
written a comic novel about life in “muddle England.”
She will
be revealing the inspiration behind More tea less vicar at the talk
which runs from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday July 13th.
Jill trained at the Florence
Nightingale School of Nursing at St Thomas' Hospital in London, was awarded a
scholarship by The Kings Fund to work in America and for the last 20 years she has presented
health features for many TV and radio programmes including Woman’s Hour,
Newsround and BBC Breakfast Time.
Novelist
and writer Prof Phinn, who is most well known for his autobiographical memoirs
set in the Yorkshire Dales, will be recounting humorous tales of his life
working in education when he visits on Thursday July 27th between 6
and 8pm.
Other
speakers poised to grace the rather splendid interior of Fernhill House in
Fernhill Heath over the coming months include Wimbledon reporter Garry
Richardson, Rob Smith who twice overcame cancer and skied to both the North and
South Poles, and former footballer and stadium design expert Paul Fletcher.
