Our Team
The true heart of Berkley Care lies in our people. We’re a diverse group of passionate people who all bring something unique to our residents. Here you will meet some of our team and the journey’s they have been on at Berkley Care.
Biggest challenge: “Gaining the trust of residents' families can be tough. There’s often guilt or despair because they can’t care for their loved ones themselves. But once trust is gained, collaborative care begins, and lasting relationships are formed.”
Essential qualities: Patience, empathy, a positive outlook, and a calm manner are key for care home nurses. You’ve also got to “love people, enjoy fancy dress, and dream about losing the medication keys!
Advice for aspiring nurses: “Nursing is a vocation. If you ever wake up without a passion for the job, it’s time for a change. Oh, and get used to cold tea and coffee!”
What she loves: “I love the experience and attention that residents need. Elderly people are so thankful and express it not only in words but with a simple smile. It’s heartwarming to hear how happy residents and their families are with the support I offer. That one smile gives me the encouragement to do my job with love.”
Biggest challenge: The biggest challenge for Danielle is ensuring that residents, families, and the team are all happy, and that every day is a good day. “Listening to everyone and offering the right support, especially at the end of life, is crucial”, she says.
Advice for aspiring nurses: “Don’t be afraid to ask for support, no matter how many times it is needed. If families or residents need support, they can always talk with the nurse, and we can offer support together.”
Career transition: for Andrew, transitioning into social care was rapid but rewarding. Starting as a carer, he quickly ascended to various roles including receptionist, administrator, and eventually a general manager – all within nine months!
Transferable skills: Andrew’s people skills from previous roles were the perfect Skills for Care. His confidence, patience, and ability to connect with people have been invaluable.
Why care matters: For Andrew, care is about relationships and excellence, especially in end-of-life care. He treasures the bonds he forms with residents and their families, ensuring they receive the best possible support.
Advice for newcomers: Andrew encourages those entering care to be themselves and leverage their individual strengths in whatever role they do. Being open and engaging genuinely with others is key.
Career transition: The biggest adjustment was overcoming initial discomforts and communication hurdles due to cultural differences. However, moving into social care allowed Ebeneezer to embrace his passion for helping others.
Transferable skills: Ebeneezer’s administrative background armed him with communication and relationship-building skills which aided in establishing trust with residents and colleagues.
Why care matters: For Ebeneezer, care is about prioritising the happiness and wellbeing of residents, making each day a rewarding experience.

Career transition: Moving into social care was a heartfelt decision for Marie. At Fernhill House, her biggest adjustment was managing emotions – both her own and those of the families adjusting to new beginnings.
Transferable skills: Marie’s essential skills from teaching – patience, active listening, and calmness – are now her tools for trust and comfort in care.
Why care matters: For Marie, care is more than a profession – it’s a privilege. Being part of someone’s life, making a tangible positive difference, and supporting residents to live Ebeneezer to embrace his passion for helping others.
independently and joyfully are what make her work so rewarding.
